William Kardash (1912-1997) was a member of the Communist Party of Canada and veteran of the Spanish Civil War where he was a member of the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion (the Mac-Paps) - the Canadian contribution to the International Brigade volunteers. He was elected to the Manitoba provincial legislature, one of the few members of the Canadian Communist Party to have been elected to office. After his death, his collected papers and memorabilia (600 boxes!) were donated to the Manitoba provincial archives, including this Songbook of the International Brigades. The songbook was recently photocopied and scanned by a visitor to the archives and is being made available here as a series of PDF files.
