small celebrations - Poetry by Kimberly Beth Watson

small celebrations

Daffodils on the veld bat their sober lashes
facing a trial of southwest wind and
rejoice

A centipede in the kitchen satiated on
shortbread crumbs, stretches his sticky shoulder
stiff from a good run
rejoices

The vigilant old toad,
who lies on his back and smokes
a handsome brown pipe
rejoices

The springbok sprung their way home
in a sprint of sanity to freedom they
rejoice

Nelson Mandela is 93.
