Microsoft Works, Microsoft
Word, and other popular word processors can be used make greeting
cards. I’m using Microsoft Works ver 4.5 for
this example, but other word
processors can be used in similar fashion.
Before you begin: Click on the word Zoom
(near the bottom)-- a menu will pop up. Pick Whole Page. This
will allow you to see the whole page.
You will get best results if you
minimize the margins… you do this using the File/Page Setup
menu
item… but don’t make your margins less than 0.25” (about 1
cm)—otherwise, you may have problems printing.
1) Set up the page for two
columns:
Format/Columns/2/OK

2) In the top left-hand corner,
insert Wordart:
Insert/WordArt
Type the text you want. Do not
put more than a word or two on a line. For example:
Happy
Birthday
John!
Love,
Mr Z.
3) Use the toolbar items:

· Pick an alternative font
if desired
· Change Best Fit to a
specific size-- 48 pt seems to work well. If it asks if it’s OK to
resize the WordArt object, agree.
· Click on the curved arrow buttom
(4th
from the right) to rotate your text 180º :

Click OK. Again, agree if it
asks to resize your text.
· Click Update Display and
then click on the [x] to close the little WordArt window.

Press enter a whole bunch of
times to move the cursor to halfway down the second column.
Make a picture in Paint or other
graphics program (a picture about 350 pixels wide by about 400 pixels
high works well), and then select it, Edit/Copy... switch to your Works
page and Edit/Paste. You can click on the picture to stretch it or
shrink it, if necessary.
Or in Works, click on Insert/Clipart.
Select
a
picture from Works’ pre-made art to insert into your page.
Resize the picture as needed. If you like you
can add some text underneath. It should look something like:

Save
and print. Fold into quarters, and you should have a card.
